Ska-core Pioneers Rolling Through Texas

Formed in 1988, Voodoo Glow Skulls meshed hardcore punk, traditional ska, tough guitar riffs and the Mexican music of their roots to create the prototype for the West Coast ska-core sound, influencing a wide range of bands from Sublime to No Doubt. They are winding down their current tour with a series of dates in Texas. You can catch them at Flamingo Cantina December 20th.

What You Missed

Away Station, Tueday June 27 at Key Club

LA's Have you ever had a moment when you were at a show at a tiny club and thought how great the band was, then years later you can't even buy a ticket to see them because they sold out in 5 minutes? You then say to yourself, "Damn, I remember seeing those guys when they were nothing. Who knew.." Well, I had one of those moments. The Away Station is from Las Vegas, but don't expect anything less than soaring vocals, crushing choruses and songs that feel like they should be played in an arena. You can tell that their influences are bands like Coldplay and U2, but I also heard similarities to bands like China Crises and Aztec Camera (old school). Do yourself a favor, and check out Away Station before they sell out in 5 minutes.
